If you have been out of touch with the news lately, you should listen up to this cool little bit of news. Recently, Wonder Women has been inducted as the newest Ambassador for the United Nations as a symbol of empowerment for women and girls.
There to receive the prestigious award was Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series and Gal Gadot, who will bring the iconic superhero to the big screen next summer! Yet you know there were some bumps in the road along the way to the 75 birthday gift to the DemiGod herself.
Many stated Wonder Women to be ‘overly sexualized’, you know, because women apparently can't embrace their bodies as much as a man can, just because. There was actually a petition to try and stop Wonder Women from having this honor, and it said:
"Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent 'warrior' woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character’s current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions, scantily clad in a shimmery, thigh-baring body suit with an American flag motif and knee high boots –the epitome of a 'pin-up' girl."
The best part about this story is that of course there were some insecure people who thought making a fictional character an UN ambassador was ridiculous. Most likely because it could empower the women who haven’t been treated equally to fight for their rights and possibly take the job that they’re more qualified for that they couldn’t get without a fight. They also decided to be blatantly disrespectful during the ceremony and had their back facing the podium as Wonder Women received her honor.
This story just goes to show that you should never stop you from doing what you know is right! Wonder Women deserved her ambassadorship, and got what she deserved. Point Blank.
