It's all up to her now. It's going to be up to Wonder Woman to save the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). So far, 3 released projects have gotten to the big screen, these include: Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. All of these have been released with mixed reviews, while some claiming that the films are great others are saying that poorly put together messes. I'm a DC fanboy at heart, and I'm always going to love the films simply because they are DC, regardless of quality. As such, if a series repeatably puts out poor quality after poor quality product, people are going to stop going to see the films because they expect the same thing.
One of the major problems with the DCEU is that they are almost rushing these films out. They aren't giving the characters in the film proper time to develop and at the studios by extension are cutting the films down dramatically, sometimes removing a few small scenes which really add good development for the movie. The stories being told often hint at a great backstory that happened before the films, this almost ruins the fun for long time fans because they can't see these stories told the way they should be, and it confuses newcomers who don't know what's going on or what's being referenced. In addition to this, several of those on working on the production of these movies have left due to "creative differences" and as such have left the studio scrambling to find new directors. Even Wonder Woman has had to deal with problems like these.
The next production from Warner Bros studios is going to be Wonder Woman. Her character was introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and now is being given her own film to flesh out her origin and character.
The DCEU desperately needs to knock this ball out of the park in order to make a stand against their direct rival in this franchise.
Already, there are supposedly sources close to the film that claim it's a mess and the pacing is all over the place. I'm trying to look towards the film with optimistic eyes, as I want this film to desperately succeed. So, this movie needs to be done right. So far, I think it very well does have a chance to do so. Being directed by Patty Jenkins, and with a story done by Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, and with DC comics giant Geoff Johns working with Allan Heinberg on the screenplay. Both of the writers do have previously credits with the Wonder Woman character, and with a female director, we can expect the character to be treated with the respect she deserves.
I'll be seeing as DCEU regardless of how they look, simply because I love the franchise. But importantly, if they don't start trying to make these products correctly, other people aren't going to.
