9 Quotes From 'Wonder' That Will Inspire You To Choose Kindness
Mandeville Films

Recently, I saw a movie called "Wonder" which is based on an even better book. The movie does a great job of showing its audience just how far one simple act of kindness can go. Here are nine quotes from the movie that will inspire you to always choose kindness too.

1. “When given the choice between being right or being kind choose kind.”

One of the main themes of this movie was to choose to be kind to others. It's important to realize that you don't always have to be right, especially if it's at the cost of hurting somebody else.

2. “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”

While not everyone in the world will receive a large audience giving them a standing ovation, people do deserve to be recognized for their actions even if it is just a simple "thank you."

3. “Kinder than is necessary. Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.”

As with anything, you have the potential to do the bare minimum or to do more than asked for. When it comes to being kind, you should always do the most because you never know what putting in that extra effort could do for somebody else.

4 .“Sometimes I think my head is so big because it is so full of dreams”

Coming from a young character, this quote may seem childish, but it conveys a deeper meaning that we can all relate to. Having dreams is important and just because you're not a kid anymore doesn't mean you can't set big goals for yourself. In fact, you should never stop dreaming of all the great things that you can do.

5. “It’s not enough to be friendly. You have to be a friend.”

While being friendly is a great thing, it's important to recognize when somebody really needs a friend and that just being friendly isn't enough. Being a friend is one of the greatest gives you can give someone.

6. "Greatness is not being strong, but using strength to carry the most hearts."

This is one of my favorite quotes because it shows us that it's not about physical strength, it's about having the strength in character to be able to put others first and be willing to help.

7. “We carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of kindness.”

Everybody has the potential to be kind, but it is how you use this potential that creates an impact. Just because you can be kind doesn't mean you are, being kind is a conscious decision that you have to make.

8. "Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness."

Have the courage to be kind and you will create friendships that will build your character into a better you.

9. “The best way to measure how much you've grown isn't by inches or the number of laps you can now run around the track, or even your grade point average-- though those things are important, to be sure. It's what you've done with your time, how you've chosen to spend your days, and whom you've touched this year. That, to me, is the greatest measure of success.”

All the things you've accomplished in your lifetime are important, but who do you want to be remembered as? It's your life and every second of every day you choose how you live it. With this, you have the power to choose how you act towards others. Being kind is so simple and even if you don't feel like you're making a difference, having a positive impact on someone can improve their day more than you think.

While these nine quotes are important, I definitely recommend watching the movie because it's very well done and will show you how these nine quotes fit into real lives full of kindness and greatness.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
