The Women's March on Saturday, January 21, 2017 was organized for women who want to protest their human rights due to President Donald Trump's past remarks about women.
This march took place in many areas in the United States but the larger populated protests occurred in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. The march was only expected about 100,000 people, but according to LAPD about 500,000 showed up. However, the organizers of the protest claim that about 750,000 protesters were actually there. According to L.A. Times, "Officials said it appeared to be the largest since a massive 2006 immigration march downtown."
It was only supposed to be in Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles but it reached all the way to Grand Avenue in front of the Walt Disney Concert Hall where I was working at the time. Grand Avenue unexpectedly had to be closed and even the parking structure had to be blocked off due excessive amount people parking there and the surrounding protestors.
As soon as I came in for my shift around 9 a.m. there were already a lot of protestors around the front lobby of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It was more packed than usual during the usual load-in of guests for a morning concert due to the protesters using the front lobby's public restrooms and seating area in the cafe. The lines for the restrooms were longer than I have ever seen before.
A lot of the marchers were grateful that we were allowing them to use the restrooms and seating area in the cafe to eat their food. However, there were also a few complaining that the line was too long, but there was nothing we could do at that point. Only ticketed guests who were there to see the concert were able to go to the upper floors where the theater is at to use the restrooms. One woman even asked if she can buy a ticket just to go upstairs and use the restroom.
The street closed a little before noon and opened again around 3pm. It wasn't too long but it was definitely and interesting event to witness.
