Why Women's History Month Is So Important

If you hadn't already heard, this month is Women's History Month. And if you're a woman, every year, during this month, you hear all sorts of complaints from people, mostly anti-feminists, most of which are (unfortunately) men—especially complaints like why do we even need women's history month?

Well, I'm here to tell them, and everyone who's reading this, exactly why women's history month is so essential to our world at this point in time. It's not just women's inequality in America that we are fighting for. It is for women all across the globe who are being oppressed in different ways in a multitude of countries.

Women's History Month is also an amazing time where women get to celebrate all of the advances in equality we have made through history, especially within the last year! In Spain, the government made history when the Prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, appointed the first mostly female cabinet, where 11 out of the 17 members are women. Another huge step, one that gained a lot of notoriety, was when Saudi women were finally given the legal right to drive! In Ireland, citizens voted to finally repeal the 8th amendment to Ireland's constitution, which now legalizes abortions and a woman's right to choose.

This month is also an opportune time for women across the world to rally support for each other and a time for us all to come together, for more things than just women's rights, but for equality in every sense, for all people. This month helps to instill the feeling of unity in our modern society, and it calls people, men and women alike, to stand with each other, and fight for equal rights for everyone. It also raises awareness on new and more 'popular' women's rights issues, as well as older ones, like the wage gap, which has been an ongoing issue for decades, or the right to drive, which gained notoriety when MBS finally lifted the ban for Saudi Arabian women.

There are still big changes to be made, and big steps to be taken towards full equality for women, even in our own country! Let's all do what we can to fight for equality for women around the world!

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
