When a woman enters for job interview, she will have to cover up head to toe to hide from the employer just to have a fair chance of getting the job; that's a different story for men in the work place. Women have been stereotyped as a clean cut, well-dressed housewives for hundreds of years while the men do whatever they want because of a simple phrase “Boys will be boys”. A recent poll has been taken by Reuters, which states around 59 percent of women in the work place have tattoos compared to the 41 percent of males. Out of this population, around 41 percent of women are proud to show their tattoos to the boss. However, this will still hurt their chance for the position. Statistics say that employers are less shocked to see a man with ink than a woman. The employer has every right to deny a person because of their tattoos, if they have a rule against no visible tattoos. It’s a different issue if the company hires a man with tattoos over a women. That is considered as a legal violation. It’s not right to pick a man over a women who are going for he same position just because it is expected for a male to have tattoos.
There have been stories and proof that both male and females can be successful in their career field. Here are few examples of both genders proving the stereotype wrong; Robert, is the Director of Analysis for an NYC governmental agency. After graduating with a MBA, he went and got himself a sleeve tattoo. Lara is corporate administrative assistant for a prominent German pharmaceutical company. She has a full-sleeve tattoo, which was done by her tattoo artist husband, who is based out of Connecticut. Last but not least Kat Von D, is an American tattoo artist, model, musician, entrepreneur and television personality.
