Currently, we live in a time and a society where feminism is a growing idea that people are (finally) beginning to accept and embrace. Fortunately, many people, both men and women alike have grasped onto this concept of feminism.
Women are just as strong, powerful, and successful as men are, and there is no denying that. Women are undoubtedly assets to not only development internationally, and nationally, but also to other women and their interpersonal relationships with each other.
Even if it seems like little to no progress has been made so far, the world is slowly but surely progressing concerning women's rights. Specifically, if you look back a mere 50 years in the history of the United States, woman have gained more rights than it seems like. However, this still is not enough.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that world has made so much progress concerning women's rights when women are constantly criticized for their actions. It seems like with every step we take there is a new judgment surrounding us.
With slut-shaming, criticizing body positivity and defending rape culture all being prevalent in our society today it makes us feel like we haven't made much progress at all.
All of these actions contribute to anti-feminism movements and if you claim to support female equality when you are degrading other women, you are just being hypocritical. The issue with this is that men and women are criticizing actions having to do with body positivity.
For example, women do not feel comfortable with their bodies after giving birth because of various pressures from the media and different social constructs in place. Magazines like to focus on celebrity mothers on how they lost their baby weight.
These magazines convey the idea that it is apparently normal for women to look fantastic months after having a baby, which in reality is not true in most cases. How are we supposed to progress as a society if expression is hindered and refined to just those who don't represent a majority of society?
In my opinion, we should teach aspects of women's history in schools so kids, both boys and girls alike grow up acknowledging the beautiful contributions that women have made to the world.
It is a fact that women as a whole are constantly looked down upon as inferior, and unfortunately it is common that many women, especially young women, are not comfortable in their own skin nor living in the world and how it is today.
The only way for women to keep the rights they currently have and to keep gaining more rights is if women support other women. Feminism will not fully prevail unless women find it in themselves to support each other.
In a world where women are still inferior, whether it is in regards to equal pay or women's rights, it is vital that women to support other women, because without extra support, there is no way any future progress will be made.
