In the future, I plan to become a television show host of my own show. So, here are four women that have influenced/inspired me over the years.

1. Oprah Winfrey

Oprah is a phenomenal, strong, and humble woman. My first time watching the Oprah Winfrey show, she was giving away cars to everybody in her audience. I remember thinking, “dang, I wish I was there.” In high school, my English teacher assigned the class to write about a celebrity doing their dream job. I wrote about Oprah, of course, you probably guessed it.

The more I read about her story, the more interested I was. Oprah has been through so much, but yet she still pushes forward. Look at her now! I want to be similar to her: wealthy, humble, and inspiring. One of my dreams is to meet her in person.

2. Maya Angelou

The day I found out she passed away, I was devastated. You might think I’m overexaggerating, but trust me I’m not. Angelou has been an inspiration to me since middle school. The first poem I ever read by her was Why The Caged Bird Sings. I had received an audio copy from my teacher and I never gave it back.

My favorite poem by her is "phenomenal woman." That poem reminds me to love everything about myself because I’m phenomenal. The other message I get from the poem is that flaws are okay. The reason I say that is because something you may not like about your body or about yourself, somebody loves. She spoke so much truth with little rhymes.

Still I Rise is another one of my favorite poems because it motivates me to keep going. She wasn’t just a poet though. She was an author, singer, and a civil rights activist. I wanted to meet her.

3. Michelle Obama

The day Obama was elected into office was something America will never forget. Another day, students across the world will never forget when she made the vending machines healthy. At the time, I was so upset.

I was a freshman in high school ready to spend all my dollars, then that happened and changed everything. Today, I’m thankful she did it. As much as I talk about wanting to be healthy or in shape, those candy bars would have slowed ya girl down.

She also created the Let Girls Learn to help girls around the world get that education they deserve. The fact that she thinks it’s important for women to be knowledgeable is amazing to me. Knowledge is dangerous.

Her fashion style is classy, yet spicy. These two things are only a few of the things she has done. Forever my first lady!

4. Ellen Degeneres

I grew up on Ellen. I was faithfully watching Ellen every week. She blesses people in all shapes and forms which is another reason I love her show. Ellen is not afraid to have a good time, speak her mind, and dance. I love that about her.

The fact that Ellen was one of the first television show host to come out was bold, but she continues to use her voice for the LGBTQ community. She has a goofy element to her show that I plan to show in mine in the future.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
