On a recent trip to the airport, I was waiting at my gate for my flight when something I saw broke my heart. I overheard two grown women making fun of other women as they passed. Making fun of things like women’s sizes, clothing, makeup or general appearance. This was striking to me and got me thinking about why we as women don’t use that energy to rather than tear one another down, empower one another.

With our culture and media constantly trying to define our self-worth why are woman tearing each other apart?

Why are we not constantly empowering one another and building each other up?

If we as woman supported one another, can you imagine the amazing things that would get done? No more competition or jealousy, rather empowerment.

As females, we should be complimenting each other rather than the constant focus on who is better than who.

Let’s be honest, it never has really been a competition.

It really does not take much to be kind to one another, in fact, I argue it takes a lot more energy to be cruel. We ALL have something unique to bring to the table and we all have different strengths and talents. If we combined all those unique qualities, can you imagine the changes that would be seen in our world?

I think women would be pursuing more leadership, our communities would be strengthened, and women would be seen as equals. Not only should we be practicing radical self-love day after day, but we should also be practicing valuing other women. There is so much negativity that gets thrown at women every day, so we do not need to be adding to the fire by creating more negativity within ourselves.

Build your fellow woman up EVERYDAY. Compliment one another and find role models who are women. Support and cheer for each other and our goals and admirations. Empower your fellow women, because women are amazing beings.

Find common ground and realize that so many of us have scars and brokenness that can be shared to create community together. Respect each other. Laugh with each other. Admire each other’s strengths and be there for each other in times of sadness. Embrace inner beauty rather than being judgmental of each other’s bodies.

Women are truly capable of greatness and with each other’s support, we could change the world.

Plus, fierce lady friendships are just the best.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
