'Women Do Earn Less In America Because They Choose To'

Gavin McInnes, you're just wrong.

Now that I have your attention, yes that was an actual statement made by Gavin McInnes. McGinnis says women earn less in America because they choose to earn less. He also says women should earn their equal pay because this is a man's world and these are man's rules. Somehow this man has his own show and is allowed to voice his absurd opinions on Fox News. My question to Gavin is, if women choose to earn less, can I choose to pay less for the same degree? If I earn the same degree and possess the same qualifications as a man but he will get paid more, why can't I get my degree for cheaper? You know, since I won't be making as much money anyway. Food for thought.

Recently, this discussion was presented to me through a video I saw on Facebook. The video was a clip of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on the US Women's Soccer Team's wage discrimination lawsuit. In the clip, the women present their case to Hasan Minhaj. In the video, we learn the US Men's soccer team makes $5,000 if they lose a game, while the US Women's soccer team earns only $1,300 when they wina game. The men's team makes $17,000 per game won. Those numbers are not the slightest bit excusable. You need to see this video:

During this past week's broadcast of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, a screenshot of a tweet made it's way to my Facebook news feed that read, "Wife of Bear's lineman wins bronze medal today in Rio Olympics." In 2016, women are still being identified by their husbands. An Olympic athlete cannot get the respect she deserves because her husband is also a professional athlete. Corey Cogdell-Unrein didn't spend years of training and dedication to represent her country in the Olympic Games and be identified by her husband.

I have really never understood why a person's reproductive organs dictates their intelligence and ability. If I want to be a neurosurgeon, I will be the best dang neurosurgeon you have ever seen. Not because I am a man or woman, but because I am an intelligent, dedicated, and able person.

I know a lot of Christian's men (and women) want to use the bible as a crutch for their old fashioned view of a women's role. While I am a Christian myself, I cannot stand with some of the old traditions of a woman's role. I am a person. A person with a brain and a heart. That is what I should be viewed as. A woman is not a lesser version of a man. Both man and woman are made in the image of God. A man is not exclusive or more important than a woman.

The point of this article is not to say one sex is more valuable or more important than the other, but to say they are equal. They are equal and should be treated as such, especially when it comes to pay.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
