Recently I was listening to a playlist on Spotify called "Women of Country" I love this playlist because it has all the amazing women of country music. There is one common trend that I noticed in this playlist with these women. Just about every song was about a man.
These are powerful, inspiring women and they're singing about being in love or heartbreak. I just couldn't believe it. I mean I know country music is know for being centered on love. But this is ridicules. Don't believe me? Here are some examples:
1. Jolene by Dolly Parton
This song is about a woman trying to steal Dolly's husband and she is begging her not to.
2. I Got the Boy by Jana Kramer
Jana is talking about one of her ex boyfriends and how he is getting married. She is going on about how he was a different person when she was with him. "I got the boy, she got the man."
3. Any Man of Mine by Shania Twain
The great Shania Twain even is on the list. She is giving all these requirements about what a guy has to be like if they want to be with her.
4. Vice by Miranda Lambert
Miranda shouldn't be a shock as to why she's on the list. Her ex husband Blake Shelton left her for another woman. So she made this song to describe her suffering and how she was coping with her divorce.
5. Church Bells by Carrie Underwood
Mrs. Underwood also shouldn't be a surprise, all the she writes about is love and heartbreak she goes from singing Before He Cheats to Heartbeat. This girl is like flipping a switch but she is amazing woman, mother, and wife. I just hope Mike Fischer never cheat on her for the sake of his vehicle anyway.
Now there are of course songs on the playlist that are not about men, like 80s Mercedes, Road Less Traveled, and Fly. But majority of them are from these amazing, women that inspire us to be ourselves, but how are we suppose to follow their lead when all they focus on is men?
