I remember the first time I felt insecure about my body hair. While sitting next to me on the bleachers of our seventh grade gym class, a friend pointed out her disgust at the dark hair that covered my legs and arms. I started shaving my legs soon after that. A close friend in high school even had "wax arm hair" permanently added to her beauty routine. Why?
Society stigmatizes the natural body hair that grows on women as unhygienic, unruly and unladylike. Men are free to ignore the thick hair that covers their legs, arms, underarms and face while women are hyper-aware when a single strand grows "out of place." Tweezers, hot wax, bleach and especially razors are all used to tame our hair.
Here are five ways you can show off your beautiful body hair and destroy the preconceived notions that it makes you any less beautiful.
1. Denim Skirt
Going to a bonfire on the beach or a BBQ in your own backyard? Pick a casual skirt to show off the beautiful hair you've grown during the winter! Use the extra time you would have spent shaving to eat more of your grandma's famous cookies. Sounds like a win to me!
2. Lace Bralette
Anyone that said that body hair makes a lady unattractive has never seen a confident woman in a bralette. Simply because you have hair in your armpits doesn't take away from the simple elegance of this white lace. Buy all of the cute sleeveless tops without fear!
3. Business Casual
Command that boardroom without giving a hoot about the hair on your legs! There is nothing unprofessional about body hair. You know what's unprofessional? Anyone caring about the hair on your legs when you're giving a top-notch business proposal! I'm looking at you, Kevin.
4. Bikini
Soak in the sun, squish your toes in the sand and hit up a volleyball game. Whether your hair is light, dark, thick or thin, love the skin you're in!
5. Pajamas
Netflix and no shave! Cozy up to your Netflix pal and binge watch your favorite show without the pressure to change anything about the soft hair that covers your legs. The only thing you should be worried about is who's bringing the snacks!
