Let’s be real here; not all of us women are going to be living with a man right out of college to help us repair things when they are broken. When we do live on our own, we will be at a lost on how to fix things when they’re broken. We’ll either have to call a company to have them come out and fix it, or we will need our fathers to come out and help us. Personally, I’d like to be able to know how to fix something myself instead of paying for someone else to fix it for me.

Women should learn some basic home improvement skills like using a power drill, screwdriver, tape measure, pliers, etc. Having knowledge of how these tools work will not only benefit you in the long run, but show that you don’t need to depend on a man to do everything around the house. Power tools can be intimidating at first, but don’t be scared to pick them up and try them. Get someone to show you how each tool works to get a basic knowledge and you’re good to go.

Growing up, my dad was always the handyman that fixed different things for my mom. When I got a little older, my parents split and I saw how important it was for a woman to learn how to use different tools for around the house. My mother had basic knowledge of how to use a hammer and screwdriver so she knew how to fix some things. Other times, she would need to call a company to come out and repair something for her. It was always a pain for her because she would occasionally have to take off from work to be there when the company was repairing. Also, it costs a lot of money to have someone else come out and do the work for you.

To me, learning how to use different kinds of tools will really benefit you. It will save you so much money by just grabbing a few tools and doing it yourself rather than having someone else do it for you. Even if you have a boyfriend or husband to do the repairs for you, giving them help in repairing things will give both of you something to do together and you’d be giving them an extra hand. Helping your significant other will make the repair go a lot faster and make them happy that you’re willing to help them.

Overall, women should at least learn how to use different power tools to help them be able to repair things when they become broken. Save yourself some money and pick up some tools to complete a repair yourself. You will be so grateful that you learned how to fix things yourself instead of having to rely on your father or a company to do it. Let the power tools, make you feel powerful.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
