NC State is known around the world for its award-winning disciplines, but what many people don't know about NC State is the technology-rich environment available for students, staff, administration, and visitors on campus.
According to the Division of Student and Academic Affairs, the growing-campus wireless network accommodates more than 23,000 simultaneous users with WiFi access available from about 94% of all classrooms on campus, 100% of the libraries, Talley Student Union, and many other indoor and outdoor locations on campus.
NC State University also has two technology-rich libraries located on campus, with hundreds of cutting-edge learning spaces. James B. Hunt Jr. Library on NC State's Centennial Campus was named "The Library Of The Future" by Time Magazine. It contains many Creativity Studios which house projectors and movable walls that can be configured to host simulations, installations, and virtual environments. D.H. Hill Library on Main Campus features a Collaborative Digital Media Lab, complete with many audio production and video editing workstations. It also houses the Makerspace, which allows students and faculty to gain access to emerging forms of technology like 3D Printers, 3D Scanners and Electronics Prototyping.
This is just a short list - all over campus, you'll find hundreds of technology-enhanced classrooms, collaborative group meeting spaces and more than 100 computer labs.
With the influx of technology NC State offers to students and faculty, it is important to practice safe computing and stay informed about copyright issues and risks of illegal file sharing. If you need more information, check out the Office of Information Technology (OIT) website, which houses many resources available to students.
With the rise in new technologies being developed every day, there's a question that seems to be on everyone's mind nowadays... what forms of technology do you think you will see at NC State soon, or would like to see get implemented on campus soon?
