Wishing for Warm

Why I can't wait until the summer.

Wishing for Warm

Winter is upon us, and recently the temperature has dropped drastically. The weathermen say that we're entering a polar vortex. Everyone's layering up braving the cold, and it's about this time of year that everyone starts wishing for summer. People wish they could be down south where it's warm, in places like Florida or Georgia. People wish they could somehow escape the cold. Yet, some people absolutely love the winter because they love the snow, and all the activities that come with it. It can be hard to tell what is a better season, but without further ado, here is the comparison.

In winter, you get to drink hot cocoa while snuggled up under a blanket, activities that try to warm you up. But in summer, you can sit outside in the sun, or even by the pool with a nice, cold ice cream. You can't go swimming in the winter outside, now can you? Even if you could, it's more enjoyable to go swimming out in the summer when it's actually warm. Winter means cold weather, like snow. Kids can be seen outside sledding and building snowmen, and even engaging in snowball fights. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you get off of school or even get a delay. However, snow isn't fun to drive in. Roads get icy, and frequent car crashes occur, which can be seen all over the news. With this cold weather, it also brings heavy winter coats and other accessories including hats, mittens and gloves. In the summer, however, the most dangerous weather you come across is thunderstorms, and when you want to go outside, you don't need to layer up. All you have to walk outside in is a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.

When winter comes in school, everyone gets excited for Christmas, but once Christmas is over, people start to get bored with winter, already wishing for summer. Plus, winter break is usually only a week or two for public school kids. When it's over, you have to go back to school, but it's still cold as winter isn't over. But, during the summer, you have a few months off of school. You do eventually go back to school, but to start a new year of school.

When people say they want to a have a white Christmas, personally, I don't want that. Last year when it was abnormally warm, I actually enjoyed it. Whenever it's cold outside, I feel like I can never get warm enough, despite how many layers I put on. I love when it's warm, and I can't wait until summer comes back.

"And so happy Christmas. We hope you have fun, the near and the dear one, the old and the young." -"Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
