Valentine's Day: an over-hyped holiday in which people take the time to recognize their significant other.
I know what you're thinking: "Another girl who's single and upset that no one is going to shower her in gifts this Valentine's Day."
Wrong.
I hated Valentine's Day even on the years I had a boyfriend to celebrate it with. Let me tell you my disgust when I walked out to my car after work one day and found out my current boyfriend at the time had placed one of those humongous stuffed animals in the passenger seat with chocolates and the whole shebang
WTF DO YOU WANT ME TO DO WITH AN OVERSIZED STUFFED ANIMAL? Seriously.
Don't get me wrong, the sweet gesture is appreciated. I'm just not one who's much for surprises or anyone really doing nice things for me, which is probably why I'm still single, but back to my point...
Why do we need a holiday to remind people to show their significant other that they appreciate and love them?
Should we not be showing our loved one everyday that we love them? I would rather have little surprises throughout the year over one grand ordeal once a year. I'd rather get a single flower on a Thursday because you thought of me than a dozen roses on Valentine's Day. I'd rather you leave me a cute note somewhere random in my house than you buy an overpriced card with a cheesy ass message in it.
If your love is real, Valentine's Day is just another day to you and your significant other. You know your worth in that special someone's life, and you don't need a holiday to reassure you. You know you don't need to go out to the store and buy some ridiculously overpriced item(s) and have your significant other blast it on their social media to show your relationship is real. You are perfectly fine spending your evening with your loved one, cooking a meal at home, and Netflix and chilling because they make you feel appreciated every single day.
Here's to the real love that doesn't need a holiday to justify it.
