I know that I shouldn't be rushing summer along, and that I should be enjoying the hot sunny days by the pool while I can. Not saying that I'm not. Summer '16 has been pretty hot (pun intended) so far. We wait for these 3 months of freedom all year, and should soak every minute in before the cold air and oversized sweaters creep up on us. But if you're anything like me, there is nothing like the Fall season, and the new adventures it brings.
A new school year, fresh textbooks, and orange colored leaves. And the apples along with the pumpkin picking. Pumpkin everything. Not to mention that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. (Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown, plus free candy, duh) And Football! Who could forget about that? Spending a chilly Sunday Afternoon curled up on the couch hoping that the Buffalo Bills may actually make it to the Playoffs this year. Yeah, typical September-December ritual. I look forward to the gut wrenching emotion that I feel when they lose every year.
I could go on and on about how much I love Fall. But what I really love about it, is something that almost all of us college students can relate to: a fresh start. We get a fresh start with our classes, being able to make new friends, and being able to join that club we were too afraid to take last semester. And possibly that internship. Fall is a time for reflection, and a time to look forward to the future. For Freshman just starting out their four years, it's a season full of new changes and living on their own for the first time. For seniors, it's a realization that they only have two semesters left before the "real world" begins.
So as we finish up these last few weeks of summer, sulking because the demands of school (papers, tests, etc.) are about to start soon, think about all the new opportunities that await, along with Pumpkin Pie and the smell of the dinner table on Thanksgiving. Or the first taste of a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks (Fredonia is lucky to give us that on campus).
Also, Fall makes every picture you take outside look 10x prettier. Great time to show off those Instagram "no filter" skills. And I mean, who doesn't love the jumping into a pile of multi colored leaves? My favorite childhood pastime. Freshly made Apple Cider tops any kind of store brand. Plus Pumpkin patches are the perfect opportunity to act like a child again,
Okay, maybe I'm getting a little too carried away here with my love for this season (especially the Pumpkin thing) but I hope that by reading this you're dreading the end of a summer a little less that you were. I think it's time to bust out the sweaters and boots right now. Just kidding, it's still mid July and 90 degrees outside.
I've gotta start working on my tan.
