Why Not To Take Life Too Seriously

Life would be a lot easier if we were all puppies.

Have you ever met those people that are always happy? The kind of people that even though they just failed an exam, which led them to go out-where their wallet and phone got stolen- and then ended up arrested and in jail for the night; BUT they still come out of it with a smile. Okay hopefully not to that extreme, but my point is they never stop smiling even when their life is crumbling. No they are not on drugs, and no they don’t have a perfect life. They choose too by keeping life simple even though it is the most complex thing you will ever go through.

Let’s put some things into perspective. Starting with the universe. Personally the universe freaks me out, the fear of the unknown. When I look at the stars I don’t like thinking about the hundreds of unanswered questions whirling around my head. So what did I do? Of course looked up on google some of these questions and came across some very reliable answers (yes that is sarcastic) on how big the universe really is.

Earth is basically a speck of a dust. I'm sure you already all knew this but from a scientific point of view the universe is give or take a couple miles 9,171,522,173,000,000,000,000,000 miles wide (nine septillion miles).

The earth makes up about 7,600 of these miles. Pretty meaningless right? Let’s put this into some context. If the earth were the size of a speck of dust then the universe would stretch to the moon and back more than 100 times.

And compared to the earth we are a grain of sand. These facts may or may not be reliable, but you get the point that there are other galaxies, civilizations, and challenges happening in the universe that we can’t even imagine (Even though I imagine them like Avatar or Star Wars). We are insignificant when you look at the whole picture. But we are still A PART of the whole picture. We are here by some stroke of luck, higher power, or some bizarre biological reaction that is mind blowing. So, if you ever stressing about a problem or holding a grudge, just remember their not as big as they seem. And laugh. Life really is ridiculous, it’s a rollercoaster, but it’s what you make it! We haven’t figured out how to stop time yet, or aging, so why not enjoy it while it’s limited? Stop stressing out if some plans don’t work out or life doesn’t go how you thought it would be. Go with the flow; explore more, enjoy more, and laugh more.

Does that worse off final grade really seem like a huge deal now? Nah.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
