Have a problem working out in cold weather?

Cooler weather is slowly approaching meaning those swimsuits, shorts, and sundresses are being put to rest. Colder weather calls for jeans, boots, sweaters and everything that covers the skin to keep warm. The only problem with the cooler weather is that people have less motivation to get to the gym and stay in shape. Being covered in bulky apparel gives people the chance to gain weight where they really don’t want to without noticing. Winter weather calls for a motivation reminder and just because your body is being covered doesn’t mean that you stop trying. If you’re working harder and you unveil the new and improved you during the summer months the more confident and beautiful you will be showing instead of the regretful-for-not-working-out you.

Set a routine

Set your alarm for the same time everyday and keep yourself in the workout groove. We all know waking up in the winter its going to be a lot darker out but the darkness can’t stop the motivation. Imagine how much better you will feel once your workout is over with and you can go on with the rest of your day.

Ask a friend

Having a friend to workout with really is motivation in itself. Not only is this keeping you from hitting snooze on the alarm, it pushes you to do better during your workouts. Having a friend also keeps you putting effort in and gives you someone to have friendly workout competition with.

Try new things

If you’re one of those people whom typically exercises outside then trying a gym membership is the answer to stay away from the cooler weather. If you have the desire to try a different type of class you’ve never tried like Zumba, Palates, or cross-fit, these could be the answers for maintaining that healthy lifestyle.

Music Choice

Having the right tunes to get you through your workout is always a plus. Spotify offers great options for putting together playlists and giving ideas for music you might like. Even the right kind of music to set as your alarm is important for getting you out of bed and moving. You want to have the right music so as soon as you press play you’re in the zone and ready to go.

Apps to motivate

There are many different apps out there that offer fitness tips, workouts or rewards for working out. Having these on your phone give you new ideas and health benefits you never knew existed. There are apps that help you monitor what you’re eating, how many calories it is, and suggestions for what you should be eating. Having apps like this at your disposal is very helpful to find motivation and push through the winter.

The cold weather shouldn’t freak you out or keep you from maintaining your personal fitness goals. It should push you and help you strive to live the healthiest lifestyle you can because once those summer months hit and you want a great bod it could be too late. Stay active and never stop trying. No matter the month you should always be trying your personal best.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
