5 Essential Pieces You Need In Your Winter Wardrobe

In This Article:

If you're anything like me, fashion will always trump comfort. For example, I once got frostbite all over my feet during a snowy winter photoshoot because socks with my boots would've thrown off the whole outfit - I know, how stupid of me. I'd refuse to wear hats that would mess up my hair and even ditch the coat at home all in the name of fashion. Now that I live in 'The Windy City', my mindset has changed a bit. With these chilling temperatures and icy conditions, I can't afford to walk the streets with just a sweater and jeans; however, that doesn't mean I have to sacrifice any cute outfits to stay warm! To prepare for what's to come, I've compiled a list of five winter must-haves that not only protect you from the cold but keep you on-trend with looks that turn heads.

1. The "teddy" jacket

Do you ever, I don't know, get an adrenaline rush when you find a really good deal shopping online? Because same. I was SO excited to have come across this under $30 jacket on Zaful's website, but to be honest, I should've paid more for what I ordered. This sherpa jacket is hands down the fuzziest, warmest, comfiest clothing item in my closet. This one's a no brainy, just get it.

2. The "pom pom" beanie

"Isn't this just any old beanie?" you may ask. No, it's not. IT'S GOT A FREAKIN POM POM. This simple fur-ball on the top adds both personality and 3 inches to your height. This hat makes you easy to spot in a large crowd, memorable to that cute guy, and safe from falling snow & ice.

3. The oversized scarf

There's nothing more annoying than a scarf that doesn't do its job. With this extra long winter accessory, you basically have a blanket and neck-warmer in one! Sleepy in class? Use it as a pillow. Forgot your beanie at home? Wrap it around your head. We love a multi-use item!

4. Fur-lined rain boots

The gross slosh that sits in the streets after a few days of snow is NOT kind to cute footwear. Fortunately, fur-lined rain boots are the perfect solution for fighting stains and discoloration of suede, leather, sheepskin, etc. Just remember to find ones with some sort of fuzzy padding on the inside, or you'll end up like me with frostbitten toes :-(

5. The long wool coat

I feel as though coats like these have always been a staple piece for winter, which is even more of a reason you should invest in a nice one today. This style was made for layering, so don't be afraid to stack a chunky sweater and a jacket underneath it's sleek design. These coats are great for keeping cold air out due to their length and were practically made for fashionable businesswomen on-the-go.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
