Dear Michigan,
Hey there! I’m not trying to sound ungrateful, but what are you doing? Let me explain what I’m asking exactly.
It’s April, which generally indicates warmer weather and the ever-nearing hope that is summer. So, this would be spring. If we weren’t experiencing the work of 30-degree days here and 40-degree days there, I could say we are in spring. However, the keyword in the aforementioned sentence was could.
Look, I understand climate change has been more evident in more recent years, but I can’t say I still don’t think about how this time last year, we at least could tell it was a different season. It seems like one season has been blurring out the others into this never-ending winter. Man, I only thought I would use that when referencing “Game of Thrones,” but there’s a first for everything I suppose.
I remember how spring used to be back when I was a child. April was spent hearing the oncoming cicadas and watching flowers begin to take bloom. The rain had watered the young buds, and although it seemed to cool the night’s air, there was always a warm breeze to ensure that summer was on the way in due time. Springtime was especially exciting for me since my birthday falls within this season.
On a serious note, I do understand it’s not your fault entirely. There have been many a warning about the wastes that affect our planet’s longevity. There is a human responsibility that has gone ignored and now, we’re all seeing the results. Maybe there will be some time to fix it, but only time will tell.
But Michigan, that doesn’t mean I still won’t bring this to your attention. We’re cold out here! I need to ditch my winter jacket so that I can walk out of the house with something lighter or no jacket at all. I would love to feel a warm breeze for my birthday rather than fear of snow touching the pavement.
Just, try a little harder. I know you can only do so much, so I’ll try to overlook this. I did say try.
Side Eyeing You with Care,
Jessica
