Winter Break As Told By The Vampire Diaries

College has been quite the experience so far. I am far away from home, living an entire new life. I have made so many new friends and meet so many new people. All these people have had an impact on my life and I can not thank them enough. There are two things that I have found a lot of people love. The first is Christmas. Most people love the Christmas season, all the music and the movies and the giving. Another thing that I have found a lot of people love is The Vampire Diaries. So many people that I have met this semester I have bonded with over our love of the T.V. series. So, as a Christmas present to everyone that I have met this semester that loves The Vampire Diaries as much as I do, here is my winter break told through the series.

Finals are over, there is no more stress for the semester, and winter break begins. Over the next five weeks of break, there is time to do everything. Hang out with friends from back home, see my family, sleep in, and just relax back home. Then I realize that I have to leave my friends that I have gotten so close to at college and I do not know how I am going to say goodbye to them.

The first week back home was a little slow because my friends from high school were still in school, but I could understand that. I spent time catching up on some T.V. shows and seeing my grandparents. Then, I started to miss my friends from college. Just hanging out all the time and getting meals together is what I missed, so I did not think it was too bad.

Week two rolls around and I am extremely bored. I am tired of doing nothing and am ready to do anything, anything to get out of the house. Then I get a message from one of my friends from college, “I miss you guys so much!” And then the “Me too!” messages followed.

We were all miserable and could not wait to get back to school, we all missed each other so much. Besides my friends, my sorority sisters group chat had random messages from everyone saying similar things. Everyone saying how much they love everyone else and could not wait until school starts again in January.

Going in to college, I never would have thought that I would have a group of friends that I cared about and cared about me this much, and I really did not expect to have such amazing sisters that have so much love in their hearts.

Now, there is still three weeks left of break. Christmas is here and New Years is to follow. Three more weeks of being hundreds of miles away from all the people that have come into my life in the past four months. Three more weeks of being bored, but relaxing before the next semester starts. And when we get back to school? It will be a fun time and I really can not wait to get back to the college life.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
