Winter Break As Told BY GIFS (Part I)

Winter Break: the sometimes month long period that college students look forward to all of first semester. You get to take a break from the stresses of college and reward yourself with some needed rest and relaxation, all the while seeing family and high school friends. After a while, though, most students become a little antsy being at home and long to be back at school. Here are GIFs that perfectly show some of the most poignant moments, at least in my experience, from the first part of winter break.

Stage 1: Last Final and Start of Winter Break

1. When your alarm goes off for your last 9 a.m. final and you are forced to get up after going to bed at 5 a.m. cramming for your exam.

2. When you give up on that question you don’t even know how to begin answering, write something completely wrong.

3. When you turn in your last final and realize you are on break for the next month!

4. When you realize you have have so much packing and cleaning to do in the hours before you leave.

5. When you are finally leaving campus and have to say goodbye to your friends.

6. When your Uber arrives and you realize that cramming your suitcases into the trunk is going to be a process.

7. When you are finally on the plane or train or in the car heading home and couldn’t be more excited… UNTIL your sleep deprivation finally catches up with you.

Stage 2-- Arriving at Home:

1. When your Mom comes running up to you and tears up while she hugs you for five minutes in the middle of the airport. You don’t mind, though, because you missed her so much.

2. When you get to take a shower without shower shoes.

3. When you finally get into your bed and fall asleep right away because you stayed up till 5 a.m. cramming for the final you had that morning.

4. When your parents come in the next morning BEFORE 9 a.m. to wake you up, obviously forgetting that you are a sleep deprived college student.

Stage 3: The First Few Days of Break:

1. When you have watched so much Netflix your eyes start to hurt, but you can’t resist.

2. When you are finally reunited with your best high school friends.

3. When you eat your favorite home-cooked meal for the first time in months.

4. When you get that dreaded email that all final grades are now posted.

Be sure to check back next week for Part 2!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
