A Winning Season

You don't have to win your games to get a win for the entire season.

The Cuyahoga Falls Black Tiger football season is officially over. It ended Friday the 28th in an away match-up with Twinsburg. The Black Tigers ended the 2016 season with an overall record of 1-9. Though this may not seem impressive, a lot of impressive events occurred over the span of this one season.

Starting off the season in July, the football team, cheerleading squad, and the marching band started to work hard during practice to make the best of the upcoming season. After winning our first game, the football team went on to lose the remaining games. But there was a difference.

The football team became closer than what they have been in the past. They never gave up on the field. They tried their best. And they persevered until the final second turned to zero.

The cheerleading squad continued to cheer on the team. They continued to do their best at everything they do, especially by pumping up the student section.

The marching band continued to perform at their best and highest level. They were voted the Best Marching Band in Northeast Ohio. They supported the football team no matter what the circumstances were.

The student section continued to show up and support their teams. They did not care what the final score was, they cared about each other because we are one Black Tiger Family.

It turned out to be a great season for the Black Tigers. We lost a few games but we won so many times. Not necessarily in the game, but in friendships and bonding, support, fun times, and so much more.

Cuyahoga Falls should be proud to be a Black Tiger. We can't just let ourselves drop down to such a low level that we think we can't do it anymore. We have to come back stronger than ever next year and be prepared to fight. We are the Black Tigers and we will come back stronger than ever before.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
