Why We All Need A Gang Of Pooh-Inspired Friends
FILMBALAYA

“We’ll be friends forever, won’t we, Pooh?" asked Piglet.

"Even longer," Pooh answered.

Everyone needs a gang of friends like those of the Hundred Acre Wood! Although Winnie the Pooh and his friends are very different from one another, what each brings to Pooh’s life is what fills his pot of honey.

Christopher Robin, the only “human” friend of Pooh and the rest of the crew, is the person upon whom everyone can rely in times of trouble. Though Christopher Robin is just a boy, he is very much an adult figure in the life of Pooh and the others. We all need a friend like Christopher Robin who is a stable and mature influence, a friend who will advise us when things go wrong, and a friend who is wiser than his or her years.

Piglet is Pooh’s dearest friend. Though small in stature, Piglet makes up for it in the size of his heart. Piglet can be overwhelmed by anxiety, particularly about the unknown. But the greatest thing about this little pink guy is that he will conquer any fear to stand tall and support his friends. Everyone needs a friend like Piglet who will set aside his or her own worries to lend a hand.

Tigger is the type of friend who is an absolute necessity when things get slightly dark and disheartening in our lives. He is a hyperactive tiger who cannot stay still and, instead, bounces his way through the Hundred Acre Wood, because that's "what Tiggers do best." Tigger’s bounciness is not just physical. He has a certain joie de vivre, which is contagious. If we all had a friend like Tigger, it would be impossible to be down for very long.

Although he is more often cranky than not, having a friend who is not particularly “friendly” still has its benefits. Rabbit’s grumpiness stems from any imposition on his desire to keep his life serene and orderly. Having a friend like Rabbit is actually quite beneficial because these are qualities which we should all strive to admire and emulate.

Eeyore is a wretched sack of a donkey, but loveable none the less. He seems to have a black cloud that hangs over him, but he keeps on going. There are two good reasons for having a friend like Eeyore. First, these sorts of people need others to pick them up when they fall, and someone like Eeyore in your life means you will learn to be a caring and compassionate person. Second, though sad to say, the “Eeyore” in your life will make your days seem bright, even in the darkest of times.

Owl purports to be wise, but his advice is often misguided. The best thing about Owl is that he is a voracious reader and the sort of friend that can offer tidbits of information, useful or not!

Kanga, Roo’s kangaroo mom, is just the sort of friend that we need when we would prefer not to confide in our real mothers, but we need the security and sagacity of an older woman. This type of friend will offer comfort without judgment.

Last but not least, Roo is a young kangaroo who is Kanga's son and Tigger's best friend. He is a bit mischievous, but in each misadventure he takes away a lesson. Roo relishes the new discoveries that each day brings. A friend like Roo will remind us of the joys of life and keep us smelling the roses.

Choosing your friends wisely isn't necessarily a task that you set out to achieve, but if you keep your eyes open for chums like Winnie the Pooh's, you will be set for life!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
