Wine Not?

Wine Not?

Wine is a beautiful thing. A wise person once said, “where there is a will there is a way, where there is wine there is a will, and therefore, where there is wine, there is a way.” That wise person is actually me, and it doesn’t actually make much sense, but I sounded clever at the time. It does, however, seriously make sense to drink more wine.

1. The first thing about wine is that it’s actually healthy.

Or, at least, people have looked hard enough to find healthy facts about wine to justify drinking more of it. Studies show that people who drink a glass of red wine have healthier cholesterol levels, sleep deeper and lower cardiometabolic risk factors! Did you know that red wine contains a bunch of really hard to find antioxidants!?

2. Another great thing wine does? It makes you look classy.

You could be sitting at home in your sweatpants watching Netflix, but if you have a glass of wine in your hand, you automatically look like you’ve got it all figured out.

3. It makes you smarter.

Or at least you sound smarter to those around you drinking wine, and you’re also less self conscious about what you say, so you’re more likely to say clever or funny things!

4. Wine, no matter what, will always be your best friend.

It’ll never stab you in the back, cheat on you, hurt your feelings or punch you. Even if you’ve had a bit too much, it’ll help you out and put you into a nice, deep, restful slumber. You can always rely on wine to be waiting for you at home after a long stressful day (and if it’s not at home you can probably buy it in under 10 minutes). Wine is never going to judge you for eating an entire tub of ice cream, or for watching an entire season of netflix in one day. Best of all, wine doesn’t need you to look nice or even get out of your pjs! It loves you unconditionally.

5. Wine also gives you an excuse to meet up with your friends.

Don’t feel like going out? Call up your best girl-friends and suggest a girls wine night in! Literally nothing is better than sitting up all night with your best friends with a couple of glasses of wine telling funny, embarrassing stories, gossiping and getting solid advice. Pairing it with cheese (because who doesn’t love cheese) all the bread you can eat and delicious mouth watering dark chocolate give you and your best friends an excuse to treat yourselves to some of your other favorite things in life.

6. Wine is also a great thing to drink when you feel like being a little goofy.

7. You can fit it at any wine tasting by saying the most outrageous things!

Some of my favorite go tos are:

“I sense a deep woodsy connotation, as if the grape went on a long hike before it was turned into wine”

“it’s a combination of fruitiness, sweetness, sourness and a bit of a tart moment at the end.”

“it tastes damp, like a wet dog.”

“I feel like this wine reaches deep into my soul. It really understands me.”

“It reminds me of my grandmother’s closet. You know, full of mothballs.”

8. Go forth and drink more wine!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
