Windows 10 vs. MacBook

I've been a Windows kid my entire life. Not once has a MacBook graced my childhood. For the longest time, iPhones weren't even on the horizon in the York family household, but my dear mother changed that when she bought an iPhone 4. She has since upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy, but that's a story for another day.

In case you've been living under a rock, Windows 10 has made its grand reveal. Doesn't it look nice? Well, I followed the nice little steps and downloaded the beautiful Windows 10. I won't get into the ugly bits, but let's just say I'm no longer friends with Microsoft. The sum of my experience with Windows 10 resulted in the need for a new computer. Much to my family's dismay, I bought a MacBook Air.

Windows and Mac are different, but not completely opposite. Windows 10 has a similar set up to Mac so going in it was easy to catch on.

They may be similar, but it's definitely an adjustment. Here are my two biggest "what the ----" moments, I have encountered so far. For all my Windows people out there dying of curiosity, and all of my Apple diehards felt free to laugh at my confusion; let's begin.

The Charger

Ah, the charger. Wait, what the beep is this?

A few Google searches later and the bottom cord is apparently an extension cord. Oh so fancy Apple, I get to choose if I want the third prong or not. While we're talking about the charger, I have to mention the magnet on the actual charger port. When you go to charge your nice little Mac there is a magnet that keeps it in place. Now, let's say you get up with your computer in hand and you forget that you plugged it in (we all do this time to time). No stress, though, with the magnet it will just unhook and you're instantly cordless. Such a nice touch, Apple, really.

Trackpad

There is no left and right click on Mac's. At first I was furious and confused. How do you do anything if there is no right click? Turns out there is all of these clever trackpad gestures. If you got to System Preferences > Trackpad, you can see demonstrations and select the ones you wish to use. Of course, some of these gestures you will see on other PC's trackpad, but not all.

The fact is that Microsoft and Apple are just two different beasts. Transitioning from Windows to OS X isn't impossible, especially now that Windows 10 seems to follow in Mac's footsteps. In fact, I recommend it. Right off the bat, the OS X system works more effectively and efficiently. Seamless harmony with machine and operating system.

Now that I have experienced the crisp clear effectiveness of MacBook, Windows is a distance memory.

Comment below some more magical differences that I may encounter with MacBook or let me know if you think Windows 10 is superior.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
