I don't know about you, but I like big books and I cannot lie. A person instantly becomes more attractive when they're completely focused on a book, unaware of what's going on around them, as they're transported to another world. People who love books are some of the best people to converse with because they're open to sharing new ideas.
So what do you do when there's not a book club to get you acquainted with that cutie in the poetry section? Here's a guide to getting the book lover of your dreams.
1. "Do you want to go on a reading date?"
Did you really have to ask?
Reading dates are highly underrated. Books, your special person, more books...what more could you want?
2. “That’s a lot of books; let me carry them for you.”
SWOON. You can have brains and brawn, but do you have manners? Don't leave those at home.
3. “Can we stop by the ______ section? It’s my favorite!”
Tell your special person ALL about your favorite section of the library. It shows that you know the library well, and you're not just there to impress him/her. This also forges a special bond as you get to know each other! Besides, it may just become your new favorite section.
4. “It’s your call: what section do you want to go to first?”
Letting your special person pick first shows your interest in getting to know them. It also shows that you care because you're willing to put their interests ahead of your own. I'd call that a slam dunk in a potential relationship!
5. “There’s just something about the smell of old books."
An appreciation for older texts will get you a long way. Besides, the couple thatsniffs books together, stays together.
6. “That’s the fifth time you’ve checked out that book. Why don’t we look for it at the local bookstore?”
Observant you are, young Jedi. If you are willing to contribute to the bibliophile’s collection, you are a keeper.
7. “The book is always better than the movie.”
This is golden wisdom in the age of film adaptations. While seeing beloved characters come to life on the big screen is exciting, the book is always in a league of its own!
8. “There are so many books on my list. I just can’t choose which one to read first!”
Have no fear! We’ll read all the books. Maybe you'll even perfect Belle's swoosh while you're at it.
9. “My favorite show growing up was Reading Rainbow.”
Word to your mother for instilling such great taste. If you are a '90s kid and didn't experience Reading Rainbow, I'm sorry.
10. “The book I put on hold is ready. Want to go with me?”Yes. The answer is always YES.
Okay, you've done the prep work. Now it's time for the grand finale! Straighten your posture, put on your best smile, take a deep breath and say...
11. “Can I get your Dewey Decimals?”
You’ll have those magic digits in a heartbeat. Go get ‘em, tiger!
