I have had a lot of jobs in the past (well not really), however there is one job that will always be my absolute favorite. I have spent two years at this place, which is far more than I have been at any other job. It was definitely fun when I first started, and I still enjoy coming into work. I always got along with all of my coworkers, and my supervisors were all nice and understanding. It definitely made coming into work fun.
At Hastings I worked in the Video Department, and I cashiered. I definitely loved the Video Department more, but I still enjoyed cashiering. While cashiering I always met a couple of unique people, and they made my time at work pretty fun. We had some pretty cool regulars, and I enjoyed chatting with them. I worked some black Fridays, and actual holidays, but I survived. Hastings had taught me a great deal about customer service, and to just smile and nod when a customer was rude. Though the longer I spent dealing with rude customers, the less patience I had. I did manage to learn how to handle angry people, which is an awesome life skill to have.
I was in High School when I first started working there, and it was a huge step up from my previous job. Sometimes it sucked when I worked late hours and would have to go to school the next day, but it was awesome having money at such a young age. It was also a pretty awesome place to work while I was in High School, because it was so much fun.
It has definitely been a fun time, and when I found out that we were closing I was definitely devastated. However, the closer we get to our close date, the more relieved I am. I am currently working two jobs, and I am a full time college student, while also balancing my personal life. So needless to say, I can’t wait to finally have a day off in the week. It’s also been pretty stressful, seeing all of our things go. But as the time went on, I grew to terms with closing. It is still pretty sad, but I can’t dwell on the past.
I will always miss all of my coworkers that I have grown close to, but I know we will all still talk after this is all said and done. I will miss buying some pretty awesome things, and spending at least half of my paycheck on movies. As a huge movie fan, I will definitely miss working in our video department. I always kept up to date with all the newest movies, and now I barely do.
As stressful and fun as this job has been, I’ll definitely miss it.
