Aislinn has always followed all three rules, rules her grandmother taught her when she was young. Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention, Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries, and Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries. These rules protected her, up until now. Two powerful faeries, Keenan and Donia are stalking her, watching her every step. Although Aislinn still follows the rules, they aren't working for her anymore. Keenan and Donia even approach her and speak to her. Although she is terrified, she cannot tell her grandmother or her freedom would be gone, so she confides to her best friend Seth.
Keenan, which we later find out, is the Summer King, although his powers has been bound by his mother, the Winter Queen. In order to unbound his powers and have full control, he must find his Summer Queen; whom he believes is Aislinn. There is only one problem: Aislinn does not want to be the Summer Queen, she has always been terrified of faeries, let alone rule them. But she may have no choice, because Keenan wants her to be the Queen no matter the cost...
After reading so many jaw dropping faery stories, it's hard to settle for anything less than amazing; but Wicked Lovely was such a suspenseful and well written novel. Melissa Marr did a great job mixing 1800's faery tales together with our modern day. The plot was creative and none like other faery novels. There was love, action, suspense, happiness, sadness, and every other emotion in just 328 pages. I found myself disliking some characters and pitying others.
I normally like the "hot boy" of the story, but I disliked Keenan. Although the reason for searching for the Summer Queen is for all his fey, and even mortals, it seemed kind of selfish to just choose any girl he feels and basically destroy their mortal life. I ended up disliking him more when I found out he was COULD BE considered the cause of Moria's (Aislinn's mother) death. His threats to Aislinn about Seth didn't work in his favor, either. Even if he was desperate.
On the other hand, I pitied Donia more than any of the other characters. She gave up her mortal life, freedom, everything out of love for Keenan. What she got in return? To be the Winter Girl. Cold no matter what. Although she gave up most, she got least in return.
Over all, if you like faery stories, this would be a good book for you.
