There isn't much that goes on in the small town of Leoti, Kansas. You could drive right through the town without even noticing you had unless you drive through during the last few days of July. Every year, starting on the last Wednesday of July and running through the last Saturday, there is the Wichita County Fair. The fair is a big event that offers many different activities and attractions. There are rodeos, dances, fashion shows, 4H events, food and of course, rides.
The rides have to be the most famous attractions that the fair offers. There is a Ferris wheel, Merry Mixer, Tilt-A-Whirl and much more. There is even a small train that you can ride around the entire fair on. One thing that makes the Wichita County Fair stand out amongst all the other fairs is that it is only 25¢ a ride. You can enjoy just about every ride you would find at any other fair for a cheaper price! This is the reason people come from all over to go to the fair. It is a great place for kids to have fun without the parents having to pay an arm and a leg.
Another great thing about the Wichita County Fair is the parade that takes place Saturday morning. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and includes a long line of businesses and organizations with floats. This parade includes the Leoti Rodeo Association, Scott City Shriners, American Implement, and G&D Trucking are just some of the floats you can see in the parade. You can also see the line of classic cars, motorcycles, ATVs, and even a dancing horse in the parade.
One of the other many great things about the fair is the food. There are vendors everywhere, and they have just about every type of carnival food that you could imagine. There are funnel cakes, cotton candy, snow cones, and so much more that will have your mouth constantly watering. Many people say that when you are young, you go to the fair for the rides, and when you get older, you go there for the food!
Thanks, Leoti. See you next year!
