In a year, we've gone from the first successful nuclear tests out of North Korea, followed by very real threats from the newly nuclear nation, to a complete de-escalation and peace talks. This was all done under the masterful hand of the president notoriously famous for foreign tactics, Donald J. Trump.
Oh.... wait. How the hell did he pull this one off? This would be an impressive feat for any president, particularly one with his foot in his mouth and the part of his brain associated with ego growing like a tumor every day. So how in God's name did this lunge in diplomacy take place? Well, I have a theory.
Trump's involvement was at best as a pawn. At worst, he is blissfully unaware and his belief that he is integral to the peace talks is like giving a dog a treat so it will piss off and stop barking. It turns out, this is all a part of a dictator's realization that should things continue, he/it will not continue on the way in which he has become accustomed to (prosperity on the backs of the suffering). Hence, the sudden shift in tactics by the famed "rocket man." Despite the country's systemic and reinforced hatred for the United States and vow to destroy them at all costs, at a time when they have the most dangerous weapon known to man, Kim Jong Un is backing down in spectacular fashion. In my opinion, this isn't a sudden epiphany by the god-king who speaks dolphin, rather than a particularly well planned out way to preserve his family's claim to the throne for decades to come.
You would think that staying in power would involve isolating his kingdom from the rest of the world as much as possible, but instead, he antagonizes the worlds military superpowers as often as he possibly can. Is he a deranged maniac? Unlikely. Is this a false flag political procedure? More likely. The thing is, we don't want nuclear war, and at the end of the day, we are going to do whatever we can to stop it. The last time nukes were used, we were the only ones who had them, and the threat of retaliation was nonexistent. That threat has reached Defcon 1, and having a guy with nukes with no clear political intentions other than destroying the enemy at all costs, gives him all the poker chips, particularly when we are the enemy.
The thing is, folding has always been apart of the game for Lil Kim.
Despite being resource-rich, North Korean leaders have never capitalized on their natural endowments. This would spread the wealth, and allow for an uprising. The Kim-ster lives in a modern-day monarchy, reminiscent of the British kings of old, a time when power was maintained under the heal of the boot of those on top. If the people can feed and govern themselves, they gain a foothold, and maybe even some power, which doesn't fit into Un's strategy. This is the reason why what is arguably the world's poorest country has devoted all of its resources to perfecting something that five of the world's strongest top 10 economies don't even have, despite not having enough food to, you know, feed its own people. I'm sorry, but even the craziest of crazies would recognize this as....crazy.
So, with all of that being said, what is the endgame here?
The great global bank or foreign aid. They're going to use fear as a currency, and hope that it has an equal exchange rate in USD. We're going to do whatever we have to do to stop a nuclear holocaust, and if that means deescalation through the monetary support of a foreign enemy, despite their utilization of death camps, so be it. That's right, for them, nukes aren't an endgame. Rather, they are a negotiation tactic.
The fact of the matter is: The almost facetiously named the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea has been milking us for all we're worth. They recognize the power of image and perceived support, a lot like our president, but utilize it better than anyone else. They have embraced their position as the bad guy, and are profiting off of it.
Think I'm crazy? I don't blame you. However, I cite an agreement made from 2003-2007, known as the Six-Party Talks. Back before the DPRK even had enriched uranium, countries like the US, Russia, South Korea, China and others recognized the threat of a nuclear North Korea. They came together, ultimately gave the dictatorship what it wanted, and made a nonaggression agreement. All the DPRK needed to do was not enrich uranium. Now it's 10 years later, and they've completely broken every rule they agreed upon. They now have nukes, allegedly capable of hitting the US.
So, what's going to happen when we sign a deal with Korea, giving them some kind of financial support or loosening restrictions on the country? Well, nothing positive. There is no way that Kim Jong Un has spent all this time despising the United States and trying to find ways to wipe them off the face of the planet to suddenly cozy up to his new pal Donny. It just doesn't make sense. Instead, we'll be fed a load of propaganda, Trump will chalk all this up to a win, the North Korean people will continue to live in pseudo-slavery, and in a decade or so when Kim needs a bailout, we'll be ready to help them out again, solely out of fear of what a crazy man with a bomb can do.
Well played, Dear Leader, who is a perfect incarnation of the appearance that a leader should have.
