On March 20th, I found myself browsing for a new show to watch. My obsession for The 100was peaking again, and I didn't want to watch the series for the fifth time. Zoo was one of the suggestions my lovely friend, Netflix, gave me and while the idea of it kind of freaked me out, I figured I should give it a try.
Boy am I glad I did.
Essentially, Zoo is about a mutation in animals that enables them to retaliate against humans. A group of five individuals are given the mission to find the source, and then a cure. Freaky as hell I know, but once you start you can't stop watching.
So let's start with Jackson Oz - an absolute hottie with the brains to follow. Jackson's caring heart and drive for saving the animals and the human race is admirable; he captures viewers hearts instantly.
Then, we have Mitch Morgan - the scientist and brains behind the mission. At first, Mitch's character is a bit of a put-off. He doesn't like people all that much and he's super blunt. But, he becomes this character that you can't help but love. He's kind of like a dad character, but he also makes you fall in love with him at the same time.
Then there's Chloe - the kick-ass leader of the group. From the moment we're introduced to Chloe, she's captured your attention. She's gorgeous and strong-willed, as well as an impeccable leader. She is easily one of the most bad-ass characters I've witnessed in a TV show.
Next, we have Jamie - a reporter who has a personal connection to the company behind this animal mutation. In my opinion, Jamie is the most unique to this set of characters. What makes her stand out is her history as a reporter, while our other characters have a more advanced, technical background. Jamie is also very strong-willed with a drive unlike any other.
And finally, we have Abe. Abe and Jackson have been lifelong friends and worked together prior to this mission. Abe is very smart and knows a lot about these animals and the places they end up traveling. He also has a huge heart.
Something I like about Zoo is it isn't one of those shows that result in romance. I will admit, romance gets tossed around here and there, but it doesn't take the spotlight - something I've found a lot of shows to do. I've found this show to be so unique compared to others I've binge-watched. Zoo is also so freaky and intriguing that it keeps you invested in it. The first day I watched it, I kept telling people how freaky it was, but I could not stop watching. I highly encourage you to take a leap and give this show a chance; if you're anything like me, you'll become invested in the tragedies the same way I did.
