Why Your Plan Isn't Yours

Why Your Plan Isn't Yours

One of the things that I enjoy doing most is planning. Organizing my days, weeks and months all neatly highlighted into my color coded planner that spells out what my life should look like. Some might say I am OCD about it, while others might just say that I am a control freak. But whatever it is, I find comfort in planning out everything.

Now don’t get me wrong—I love a spontaneous adventure with my friends every now and then, and I am always down to do whatever if you text me and you’re bored. My planning consists of meetings, assignments, obligations, committees, practices, anything you can think of that has something to do with school, work, extracurricular activities or bettering my future. No big deal.

I know I might sound crazy, but everyone at least has an idea of how they want their life to look over the next year, five years, 10 years and so on. You know what you want to do with your degree and where you want to work; you know if and when you would like to get married and how many kids you want to have. Now, I’m not saying you have all of this planned out, but you at least have an idea of what would be ideal in your eyes, right?

Something I am slowly coming to realize is that my “plan” isn’t exactly mine, crazy, right? We all go about our lives with this idea in our heads of what we want, completely ignoring the fact that God already has it under control! The creator of the universe and King of all kings has our every single day mapped out and, let me tell you, I'll bet it is one awesome plan. He knows our deepest desires and wants us to prosper in our lives of serving Him; He doesn’t want to plan things for us that will hurt us. He wants us to have hope in our lives and our future. All we have to do is trust in Him.

Most of the time, I stumble throughout my day, wondering what the heck I am doing. I make all these plans that are supposed to work out and somehow make my future better for myself, but I never actually stop and say, “God, I pray that I will lean more on what You have planned for me today, than worrying about if my plans are going to work.” If I woke up every morning and said that simple prayer, then I know without a doubt I would be more at peace than I ever have been before.

With that being said, living your life according to God’s plan for you doesn’t mean that there won’t be days where you stumble and have no idea what to do. That is just a part of life! The key is to just keep the faith and trust, trust, trust that whatever hardships you might be going through are simply a part of life and that they don’t negate the awesome plan that God has planned for you! We will fail and we will struggle and that can keep it interesting, but in the end, it just makes our successes so much sweeter and more rewarding.

We are prompted time and time again in God’s word, “Do not be afraid,” and also not to worry or be anxious about anything, because God's got it. My absolute favorite bible verse is:

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27

And the answer is no, we can worry all we want about anything we could think of and it will not help us in any way. God very clearly tells us that He has it all mapped out for us, that all we have to do is trust in Him that He will take care of us if only we let Him do so. I’m one of the worst worriers out there, especially when it comes to whether my “plans” are going to work out or not.

But at the end of the day, it all comes down to trusting that I have the greatest planner out there who has something amazing waiting for me, all I have to do is trust in Him.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
