Why Your Dog Is Your Real Best Friend

If you don't like dogs, I probably don't trust you.

Why Your Dog Is Your Real Best Friend

If your childhood didn't involve a dog, you have been missing out on the greatest best friend of all time. I got my dog when I was in fifth grade, and I have loved her ever since. Having a dog not only teaches you responsibility, but also gives you the gift of friendship. I'm not some weird dog-obsessed person (OK, maybe slightly), but if you have a dog, I'm sure you can relate.

Here are some of the many reasons why your dog is your real bff.

1. They're so cute

There is no such thing as an ugly dog. I mean, there is, but even ugly dogs are cute, somehow. And cute things make you smile. And smiling is good.

2. They always listen

Big ears or small ears, they are always open. They won't judge you or scold you for your mistakes. Sometimes you just need to talk things out, and your dog is the best way to do that. Maybe they can shake some sense into you about the weirdo you went to dinner with last week.

3. Cuddle buddy

Who needs a boyfriend when you've got a 60-pound lab to snuggle with?! Not me! But just to clarify, I wouldn't be opposed to a boyfriend. Even when your dog takes up 70 percent of the bed and make you lay in awkward positions, it's still really nice having the company.

4. They know when you're sad

You shed one tear, and somehow dogs just know. They come up to you, lay by you and comfort you in a way that is better than how anyone else can.

5. They make you laugh.

Dogs do some seriously weird stuff. Even though you feel kinda bad, you can't deny that you get a good laugh out when your dog runs into a wall.

6. They love food just as much as you

Eating is my favorite hobby, and when no one else wants to binge-eat with me, my dog will never say no.

7. They are protective and loyal

They will never forget you or ditch you. They will protect from the monsters under your bed and your dad's creepy old co-worker.

8. They love you always and forever

Dogs will never stop trying to get you to love them. No matter what you did, they will always be there. It's messed up that even after being abused previously in life, a dog will still love you. Who else can you say that about?

Dogs will always be there for you to love you and basically just make you happy. They listen to you cry, see all the weirdos you bring home from the bar and put up with that annoying high-pitched voice you that you talk to them in. Give your dog the same love and perhaps a piece of steak.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
