There is going to come a time in your life when the things that seem impossible now, will become just another aspect of your daily life. All of the things you want to accomplish, every place you hope to travel, all of the problems that seem to have no solution, every hardship that feels like it will never end, and every “no” you wish was a “yes”.

“Your 20’s are your ‘selfish’ years. It’s a decade to immerse yourself in every single thing possible. Be selfish with your time, and all the aspects of you. Tinker with shit, travel, explore, love a lot, love a little, and never touch the ground.” -Kyoko Escamilla

1. Your age is no longer a limitation or excuse to not do the things you’ve always wanted to do.

2. You can travel the world and see all of the places you’ve always dreamed about.

3. You are only responsible for yourself.

4. You are mature and experienced enough to make good choices.

5. You are mature and strong enough to deal with the repercussions of making bad choices.

6. You are the only person with the jurisdiction to decide who is and is not apart of your life.

7. You do not have a full time job to keep you tied to a single place or career.

8. You still have time to figure out who you are and who you want to be.

9. Your age or year in school no longer dictates who you surround yourself with; you are not limited to a single town or age group.

10. You can finally pursue your dreams with enough time to change or add to them.

11. You are not too late to forgive or forget.

12. You have gotten your heart broken, and therefore have a standard for how you will be treated and how you will treat others.

13. You have an opinion shaped by your own mind, not by the influences of others.

14. You do not need to depend on others to accomplish things.

15. You are old enough to stand up for yourself.

16. You know how to fix things, and who to call for the things you don’t.

17. You do not feel guilty for spending time alone.

18. You still have time to right your wrongs.

19. You do not need to have your entire life together/planned out; you can still change your mind.

20. You have much more to accomplish and dream up.

21. You are healthy, young, and alive.

22. Life is short.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
