With the presidential elections approaching, the candidates want all of the votes that they can get. As time goes on, young voters are voting less and less. Not voting is not helpful to the country and the candidates. In fact, it actually harms us. The lack of voting is due to a few factors:
Lack of education.
If one does not watch the news or pay attention to their Twitter feed when anything political pops up, the odds are that they have no idea what is going on. People would not know what the candidates stand for and the true facts about their campaign.
Lack of trust.
Believing that the candidates will actually do as they say can be difficult. People can go back on their word and voters do not feel like they can trust what the candidates say.
Apathy.
Some young people today just do not care. They do not form an opinion of their own and assume that everybody else will go out and vote. Assuming that everyone else will is not the attitude to have because if everyone assumes that, then who is voting?
Lack of confidence.
More so today, along with the lack of trust, is a lack of confidence in not only the candidates, but in the entire political and governmental system.
Lack of realization of the impact it has.
The person who is elected will be in charge for the next four, potentially eight years, and can change so many things. Life that far ahead may not be in people's minds when considering voting, but it is definitely important to think about.
All in all, it is important to voice your opinion. It may not seem so, but one more vote definitely can make a difference.
