Every October, the joy of Halloween sparks creativity in many people’s lives. Across the country, the spooky season is celebrated in countless ways. Parties galore, parades down city streets, children trick-or-treating; it’s no wonder that Halloween is one of the biggest holidays of the year. During this time, everyone has the power to dress up and be someone or something they’re not for a day. You have the righteous power of creativity at your fingertips. So why do so many people judge others for what they choose to dress up as?
The truth is no matter how much you think your costume choice is perfect, there is always going to be someone who thinks otherwise. You will receive comments like:
“I think that’s a little too risqué for you.”
“Wow, everyone and their mother are going to be that this year. Be more original. “
“Your costume is a little over the top, don’t you think?”
As you all should understand, these kinds of comments are truly annoying- ESPECIALLY if you really happen to like what you’ve chosen. I say if you feel confident and comfortable with what you’re wearing, then so be it! You shouldn’t let so many people sway your judgement on how you feel.
A real life example that I have to offer is that for the past 2 years I have dressed up as no one other than Harley Quinn. I worked really hard on the costume. I put individual pieces together and made it as original as possible. The reason I wore it for 2 years in a row is because I spent a lot of money putting it together and to be quite honest I look incredible and I feel amazing when I put it on. When people would ask me what I was dressing as for Halloween, they would say 'every girl is dressing as that' or 'don’t do it or that, it would be embarrassing for you to be the 30th Harley to walk into the party'. BUT GUESS WHAT???? I attended a party this past weekend and there was only 1 other person dressed as the infamous villain and it happened to be an old friend from elementary school. Him and I laughed about it and had a fantastic time. Plus it was a perfect opportunity for a photo! I cannot tell you how many compliments I received for my costume that night, I was shocked beyond belief.
(Me and my friend. We look adorable, I know)
Please take my advice when it comes to costuming choices: DO NOT GIVE A DAMN if people have any negative comments to say. In my opinion, as long as your costume isn’t outrageously offensive, you can rock whatever you want! So what if you are among one of the 20 girls dressed up as Pikachu or as a Vampire??? Or who cares if you are showing a little bit “too much” leg in your costume? I bet you ROCK IT!!! Take their opinions and tell them to go elsewhere because Halloween is meant to be enjoyed by everyone and if you don’t like how you look then what fun is it for you???
Be spooky, sexy, fun, creative and have fun this and every Halloween! :)
