Christmas is definitely the most wonderful time of the year. Until it becomes basically an all year investment. I love Christmas as much the next person, but I also enjoy having the time to appreciate other holidays too. Especially now that, as I walk through the store, and see multitudes of Christmas decorations when it is only mid-October.
To me, Christmas has always been a time where all of my family comes together to celebrate and spread joy. To watch as the holiday that was supposed to be about togetherness and happiness descend into months of intense spending money to be the person who gives the best presents. The entire mentality of Christmas has essentially turned everyone into a version of Ebeneezer Scrooge. We worry about the monetary value and not how much joy we get from being together with everyone. The suspense of waiting for the snowy morning that has an air of excitement you can only get from that singular special day; and having days set up to get people "into the spirit of the holidays" makes a singular exciting event turn into a dull and boring occurance.
It is so sad to see how everyone gives in to the idea that material things are the best thing that come out of Christmas. Many people are not religious, which is where Christmas itself comes from. I personally love the idea of having a religious tone to it, because that is how I was raised: knowing that Christmas comes from the history of Christ. Despite any or no religion, people should still be celebrating Christmas for the idea of togetherness and ending the year on a good note.
