Election day is right around the corner. November 8 will be an extremely important day in our nation's history for multiple reasons. I'm not here to discuss politics or my views on this election, but I am here to encourage everyone to vote.
Ever since a very young age, my parents taught me the importance of voting. They explained to me that voting is a way to be heard. It is a way to express your views as a citizen and take pride in being an American. They taught me that every vote means something. My mom taught me that women fought for me to be able to vote. These words stuck with me throughout my childhood and on my eighteen birthday, I registered to vote. I understood the importance of my right as a citizen and I took action on that.
As a 19 year old young woman, this will be my very first time voting in the General Presidential election. I take a strong interest in politics, so I have followed this election since the start. I remember being shocked after Donald Trump announced his campaign for presidency. I remember researching all of the things Hillary Clinton has said and done since her start in politics.
The media has gone out of their way to create public opinion. They have said horrible things about these candidates. They have taken sides and they have given people certain ideas about the things Trump and Clinton have said and done. They do anything it takes for views and money. You have to ignore the media, ignore what others tell you and find your own views and your own opinions on the issues that mean the most.
Yes, both of these candidates are flawed. They have each said horrible things, but guess what? One of them is going to be the President of the United States of America. One of them is going to be in charge of our military. One of them will be in charge of keeping us safe in our own nation.
This is scary to some people, but it is something we cannot change. Our country has gotten to this point and there is no going back. So, you can complain all you want. You can say you're not going to vote or that you're just going to write someone in. You can do all of these things, but either way, Trump or Hillary will win the election.
You don't have to like either candidate. You don't have to like the things they have said, but you should understand that voting is the only way you can have a voice. Do your research on each candidate. Try to understand their views on the issues, research their trustworthiness and their stance on how they want to change this nation for the better.
On November 8, make your way to the polls. Cast your vote for the candidate you feel will best serve as the President of our great nation. Our country has taken a fall and this is a crucial time for our country to make a change. It is up to you as an American citizen to decide where you stand. Cast your vote, be proud to be an American and make your voice be heard.
