Why I Am Obsessed With Traveling and You Should Be Too

Like many, I dream of traveling. Those strange foods you can't explain, the breathtaking views that pictures don't do justice, the oh so amazing hotels and resorts. I love all of it.

I will admit, I was very lucky to travel at a young age, and frequently. I've been to multiple continents and have seen more than I can dream of. But it wasn't always far off destinations and luxury resorts. While I will never forget bucket list trips like France and Tahiti, I share the same regard for the long weekend trips in northern Arizona, and the road trips up the west coast.

There is so much more to traveling then luxury amenities and posh locales. No matter the budget, time, or distance, there is a destination to be explored by you.

All over the world there are places waiting to be experienced. One of the best things to do while visiting a new place is to take part in one of the ways locals have fun.

That may be zip lining over the jungles of Costa Rica, make wine in the hills of Tuscany, or hiking one of the great peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Often places have their own unique traditions, that you may not be able to do in other places. At least not in the same way.

Either way, there is not better way to understand a place then to experience all that it offers whether that to be culturally or geographically.

Eat

Being a foodie didn't come out of no where. All over the map, there are amazing dishes, often featuring ingredients you have never heard of.

Even the McDonald's abroad features an entirely different menu.

Food is a great way to get to know a culture. Not only do you learn about the local's favorite things to eat, but how they eat them. In many places, eating involves different routines and rituals. And eating in traditional places of wherever your visiting can be an experience in itself.

Meet People

Chances are on any vacation you will meet people from all over. They may be fellow vacationers, locals, or even your cab driver. What to do with this new found relationship is up to.

Many of the people you meet will be able to suggest the best places to eat, or sights that you may miss otherwise.

You may even meet a friend. It wouldn't be the first time I have heard of someone walking away from a trip with a new connection. In fact I have even revisited places to see people I have met along the way.

The Perspective

It's not all beautiful sights, unfortunately the grass isn't always greener on the other side. This doesn't have to be a bad aspect of your trip though!

From personal experience I have walked away with new perspectives. I often walk away with feelings of gratitude and thankfulness. Additionally, often some of the people who have the least appear to be the happiest, something that isn't as common here stateside.

Appreciate Life

London, UK

Traveling is life changing, in more ways than one. The world is too big, and life is too short to stay in one place. The greatest affect traveling has is opening the eyes of the traveler to appreciating all that the world has to offer.

Whether it be down the highway an hour, or across the ocean, get out and travel.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
