Why You Should Go Through Sorority Recruitment

Going into college can be a very scary experience. Leaving behind your high school friends, your home and your family, puts all sorts of emotions in you. But the number one thing you should know about college: “IT IS OKAY TO BE SCARED”. One of the best choices I've made while in college was joining a sorority. Through the sorority recruitment process, you will be able to find your new "home" at college.

If you are like I was freshman year, you are going into this process with a completely open mind and treading into unknown waters. The first night of recruitment is overwhelming, as you will see hundreds of girls all trying to find their “perfect one” and wondering if yours really does exist. Believe me, it does.

I am not the “common” sorority girl as people in this day and age have labeled it. Which is often a great thing about many sororities, each one is very diverse in different ways. Are you an athlete? Perfect, there are many intramurals and Greek week events that you can be a part of. Are you an artist? Awesome, we always need artistic help in designing and painting our event banners. Are you a very technological person? First off, kudos to you, we always need someone to help with videos, running social media, etc. Sorority members partake in a variety of activities that allow everyone to show their unique abilities.

There are so many perks with joining a sorority. Personally, one of my favorites is the t-shirts. Who wouldn’t want to wear cute t-shirts that show off your sorority all around campus? Another great part of joining a sorority is you make so many friends so fast. Don’t know where to sit on the first day in class? All good, look for someone wearing the same shirt as you and boon, instant connection for study buddy/new friend. Further down the line, sororities really help with getting a job. If you become a part of a sorority with chapters all over, then there will be so many networking opportunities for you in the future.

So yes, break out of our comfort shell and go through sorority recruitment, you will not be sorry. If I had not gone out of my comfort zone and did it, I would not have experienced the best decision of college so far.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
