I know what you’re thinking, why in the world would I ever volunteer to write a paper every week? I totally get it and initially, I had the same thought process- but here I am writing my tenth article for the local Odyssey team I am apart of and I assure you I am enjoying every minute of it.

The odyssey is an organization put together throughout the United States in which groups all over are formed and each week its members submit one article. These article’s topics are completely up to the writer. The writers have complete freedom to write about whatever they wish to approach that week. Each article goes through a submission process of which it will be reviewed and edited by that particular group’s Editor and Chief. After the article is approved it is released on to any of your social media platforms where it is available to be read and shared by your friends and followers.

Still not enticing enough? Well here’s an added bonus- if your article is the most shared of your groups that week you will receive twenty- dollars from the Odyssey team. Now you’re getting paid to write about what you want! What’s more awesome than that?

If the twenty dollar prize money doesn’t rope you in-this should. What’s truly magnificent about writing for the Odyssey is the writing part. Your words and ideas have the power to change someone’s life, make their bad day instantly better, or even provide them with a new point of view. Writing an article once a week may seem like more to add onto your already full plate but the reality is this platform for journalism provides the writer with ample time, article content freedom, and an incentive beyond monetary value.

My personal articles have discussed topics as broad as the upcoming presidential election to small functions my university has put on. I have earned forty- dollars during my short time with the Odyssey Team but most importantly, I have touched the minds of well over a thousand readers all who deemed my thoughts and ideas worthy of being shared with others. Writing each week has made me feel whole and as if I am doing a great service to those around me. I was once pondering the same questions you are right now-should I join? Do I have the time? Would anyone even read what I write? Well the answer is yes to all of the above. You should join, you make time, and yes everyone will read your articles-what’s even better is that they will be moved by them.

Joining the Odyssey was one of the best decisions I ever made. I love being a part of it so much that I even took one of my articles to try and recruit you to join.

It will change your life and if it doesn’t change yours, well, it just might change one of your readers.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
