Why You Should Stick to Your New Years Resolution in 2017

Every year, millions of people all across the world make resolutions for the new year. These exciting vows of change often end up becoming nothing but empty promises to ourselves that lead to undeniable self-pity and determination to try again next year.

As 2016 is coming to a close, we look forward to a "fresh start" with the new year right around the corner. We have come to terms with our failed attempts to stick to our resolutions in the past and we are starting to regain motivation once again. But what is going to make this year any different than any of the past?

Here's what you should remember when deciding to take on yet again another New Years resolution...

Set goals that are attainable. If you are planning to pull off an amazing transformation or accomplishment, take it step by step. Set small goals that lead up to the final product. Not only will it be more effective but it will feel more rewarding. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, they'll only make you stronger. It's amazing how much you can learn from your own mistakes. Do not get discouraged so quickly. Change takes time, so give yourself enough. You are only human. Keep your passion. If you chose a certain resolution, it is because you are passionate about it. It is most likely something that is always on your mind and something that you really want to accomplish. Don't let minor degrees of discouragement or failure set your mind into a different direction. Stick with it. Life is short. Start to accomplish that goal. Start to learn that new skill as soon as possible. Lose that weight that has been holding back your confidence. Tomorrow is never promised. You will never be as young as you are right now, right in this moment. Do not postpone your goal, regardless if you are afraid. Do it. Take risks and step out of your comfort zone. Do things you've always wanted to do but were too scared. Do what makes you happy. If you are unhappy, make a change. If you are happy, take note of the cause of your happiness and incorporate more of it into your life.

If you start off with a strong mentality, this could be a really great year full of new and exciting endeavors! Make this year one to remember!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
