Every year, in the weeks leading up to Easter, college students flock to the beach. They pack up cars and coolers, grab their friends, roommates, roommates friend's fish’s friend and head out.
This year I decided to do something different.
Now, while I know this is a common thing, I just wanted to highlight how fun it can be to go on spring break with your parents. You have all the perks of going on spring break with your friends with the added bonus of having parents pay for anything.
It is nice to have parents to pay for everything, but it’s not the main reason I think spring breaking with your parents is fun (much to your surprise, Mom and Dad).
The best part about spring breaking with your parents is all the fun memories you make. We went to a beach that we’ve gone to since I was a child, and we spent the entire spring break trying to recreate old childhood memories. Instead of tanning (because it was cloudy; I did try), I was able to go to the aviation museum I went to as a kid. We went to the ice cream shop we always used to go to. We hit up our (my) favorite seafood restaurant and much to our (my) dismay, they no longer served our favorite dish.
But the sadness I felt over the loss of one of my favorite meals was soon replaced with happy memories as my dad danced with me. We made our own dance floor and wowed the crowd with our amazing dance moves (the sprinkler).
Even though it’s been cold, windy and threatening to rain, this trip is one I’ll remember forever. I was able to spend quality time with my family, which I’m not able to do that often (weekends at home don’t count when you’re running around seeing other people). I was able to get away and enjoy spring break but also bond with family. By spring breaking with your parents, you’ll be able to create new memories in new and/or familiar places. There will be a lot of laughs, and most likely, no one is fighting over who gets the bed (so if you’re lucky like me, you get to sleep in the big bed).
This trip has been exactly what I needed. I was able to get away and spend time with the people who mean the most to me. Who could ask for more?
