Kids are fun.

You never know what kids are going to say. They will do and say the funniest things to you and each other. Working in children’s ministry is never a dull moment and you are guaranteed to have a fun time if you spend a day in their class.

Kids provide energy.

You may have only gotten three or four hours of sleep last night but the moment you walk into a Sunday school room with 15 energetic kids your, energy level also shoots up.

Your children’s ministry needs YOU.

There is always an open spot to serve and your children’s minister would greatly appreciate it if you volunteered. Reaching kids is so important and you are needed to be a part of that.

Christians are called to love and serve.

We see throughout the Bible that God has called us to love and to serve. What better way to do that then to do it in a building you are already going to be in on that day. Children are important to God and what is important to God should also be important to you. Kids are such a blessing to God and will be a blessing to you also.

1 Samuel 12:24"But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you."

Galatians 5:13 "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love."

Your life will be changed.

Walking away you will have learned how to be a lot more patient and humility will be something that becomes a part of your character. People don’t give our children’s volunteers enough credit and although it can be discouraging to not be recognized we see in Matthew 6: 1-4 it says, “Beware ofpracticing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they havereceived their reward.3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

You are making a difference.

You never know when you will have a 4th grader who just needs someone to listen to their story or when you will have 4-year-old who just needs someone to show them some love. Your time spent in children’s ministry will not go unnoticed and you will be making a difference in these kid’s life whether you can see it or not. You are sharing the love of Christ with them and that is one of the most important things that they can receive. Children are the most open to hear about the gospel and are often the doors to also reach the parents. You are also impacting generations and families to come.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
