Why You Should Seriously Consider UW-La Crosse
the Odyssey Online

As I’ve walked around campus this past week, UW-La Crosse has had a flood of tours. I’ve witnessed current students yell stuff like, “If you love to get drunk and high come here!” I would like to assume that a great majority of colleges across the nation have a party scene as part of their culture, but UW-La Crosse has so much more to offer. So before these parents on the tours start freaking out about that comment being the turning point on their “babies” home away from home, here are some actual reasons why everyone should seriously consider enrolling at UW-La Crosse.

UW-La Gorgeous

You can not deny that La Crosse, Wisconsin is one of the most beautiful places in the state. Surrounded by nature, the campus is an ideal location to see the bluffs right outside your dorm window.

Very Active Campus

People here at UW- La Crosse love being outdoors. On a sunny day you can find students playing catch, hiking the bluffs, or playing a game of sand volleyball. Our rec is always packed with people working out, playing intramurals, doing a fitness class, or playing a game of basketball.

Size

UW-La Crosse is not too big, but not too small. One of the running jokes on campus is, “La Crosse is big enough you meet someone new everyday, but small enough you run into the person you’re trying to avoid.”

Academics

UW-La Crosse has about a 19:1 student to professor ratio. Although a great number of our classes are rigorous and challenging, a lot of professors are easy to work with. If you’re struggling in a class they have no problem working with you to figure out the issues.

Safety

University of Wisconsin--La Crosse offers campus safety and security services like 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late night transport/escort service, 24-hour emergency telephones, lighted pathways/sidewalks, and controlled dormitory access (key, security card, etc).

Before you let current students bragging about the school’s party scene persuade you, just remember UW-La Crosse has so much to offer. You should seriously consider UW-La Crosse as your home away from home.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
