I have never made a New Years Resolutions and you shouldn't either. Yes, it's very good to set goals for yourself and to accomplish them, but setting a New Years Resolution is not the way to do it, in my opinion. If you want to accomplish something, the moment you realize you want it done, you should get started on it. Don't wait until the New Year. The New Year isn't going to change much, it's how you change that's going to be the major difference. It's like you're procrastinating on your goal if you wait till the New Year. You can say to yourself that you will have one more month then you'll start your new diet or one more week so you can eat whatever you want and justify it by your new goal that you're starting. That's not how goals should work. Once you realize that you might want to start a new diet, you should go out and buy the necessary ingredients and start on the new diet as soon as possible. Don't wait.
I've heard this every year since I can remember. "This year will be my year. New year, new me." This doesn't change anything though. If you want to change something about yourself, whether it be your appearance or your attitude towards something, change it as soon as you notice it. Just because the New Year is here doesn't mean you will change. And just because it's the New Year it doesn't mean that you need to change. If you like something about yourself then it's fine, don't try to change into someone you're not just because many others are talking about their "New Year, new me".
With these goals that you're making, make sure that if you consider a new goal don't make one that is either really attainable or one that you will give right up on. Make it something where it will take some work, but will be worth it in the end. This is why I suggest not making your goal on New Years. If you say that you want to starting working out more, odds are many others are too. This starts the battle of who can get to the gym the fastest, until two or three months go by and everyone starts getting busier and busier and then they they don't have time for the gym. Make sure that whatever this goal is to keep up with the habits until you finally reach your end goal. As well as making it attainable make sure that you keep up with your progress. Once you've passed a major mile, keep going and finish out strong.
So with all that in mind, set your goals as soon as you think of them. You'll get them done way faster and you will most likely keep that goal until you succeed. So instead of making a New Years resolution that will probably fizzle out, start one today.
