Why You Should Never Stop Celebrating Your Birthday

You can even cry, if you want to.

Why You Should Never Stop Celebrating Your Birthday
Sarah Lynch

As my 22nd birthday is approaching, this coming week actually. I tried to think of a time where I was as excited as I am right now, and I really can not think of one. Birthdays are special and they always should be. It is a time to celebrate everything you have accomplished while becoming another year older.

Another year older, another year wiser. Well, that's what they say, I am not quite sure if it is true or not. I feel like I'm not old enough to figure that out yet because I still feel the same amount of wise as last year. Birthdays are the best holiday. Can you tell I am ecstatic for my birthday week?

The 22nd birthday doesn't offer as much to look forward to as the 21st birthday does, for obvious reasons, but it is still another year! You have made it a whole nother year in your life, that is something to talk about. Birthdays should never not be celebrated, it's your day for goodness sakes.

It hurts me when I ask people what they are doing for their birthday and they respond with, "oh, nothing." Like, NOTHING? Really? The possibilities are endless on your special day. A special dinner at McDonalds would even suffice.

Although I do admit that I miss inviting my entire class to a Chuckie Cheese spin-off by the name of Happy Times and eating pizza during the breaks between arcade games, 22 might be similarly exciting. I mean, Taylor Swift did write a song about it. If there's a song about it, it's real.

Birthday's are unlike any other holiday because no other holiday celebrates JUST YOU. Your birthday is literally the only day of the year where you can really truly get away with wearing a tiara and a sash. Yes, I am one of those people.

Everyone in your life congratulates you for being born however many years ago. They tell you how great it is that you are present in their life and even post pictures of memories you have shared together. Talk about an ego booster.

Birthday weeks should consist of cake with Funfetti icing, and extremely large balloons of the age numbers you are, or age you are wanting people to think you are. It is about blowing out the candles after your besties sing to you. It is about being thrilled for what is to come in your next year.

So, 82 or 22, never stop celebrating. Your birthday only comes once a year and it is a day meant for you. Surround yourself with people who are willing to celebrate with you year after year and you are golden.

In the words of rap genius' Kanye West and 2 Chainz, "it's your birthday, you in first place." So go out there and party like you're turning 21 all over again.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
