Why You Should Never Join A Sorority

Friendship, leadership opportunities, and burrito dates? Avoid at all costs.

Why You Should Never Join A Sorority

At many schools, sorority and fraternity recruitment takes place mainly in the spring semester. So as we head back to campus after winter break, countless girls are preparing to welcome their newest sisters into their sororities. Here's why you should absolutely never enter recruitment:

You might end up with lifelong friends.

Ugh, people. People suck. Having 150 girls who will love you unconditionally? Sounds awful. Plus, it's so annoying to find your bridesmaids and forever friends at the ripe old age of 19. Wouldn't it be so much better to wait till you're 35?

You could gain leadership skills and new confidence.

As a freshman, I was perfectly happy having no ambition or life skills. Now after three years in my sorority, I suddenly know how to lead and work with others. Plus, I can confidently talk to just about anyone. Ah, to go back to the days of being scared of my own shadow...

You will get stuck with a huge, nationwide network of sisters.

Moving across the country after college? You'll find a local alumna chapter of your sorority in your new city. How annoying to have instant, built-in friends no matter where you go... And to have the possibility that one of these sisters could lead you to a new job.

You will always have someone to get Chipotle or frozen yogurt with.

I mean, really. What happened to the days of scarfing down a burrito alone? Join a sorority, and you'll get stuck with countless girls who constantly want to grab tacos and rehash the events of the past week with you. So clingy.

You will never find yourself alone in the library again.

Ask anyone, and the best part of college is by far sitting alone in the library, quietly reading a book that wasn't even assigned for class. Now, you'll never find yourself at a table alone, enjoying your studies-- instead you'll be stuck with half a dozen friends all cramming for an exam and chatting away.

You'll have countless opportunities to give back to the community.

The heart of every sorority is philanthropy. That means countless hours being poured into fundraising events, and entire days dedicated to getting into your local community and doing service. That warm fuzzy feeling your heart gets after doing good--I think that's actually bad for your health.

And finally, it's really, really, really fun.

Late night nachos on a Monday night? Dance parties in your underwear while getting ready for a formal? Driving half an hour to the mall with four of your new sisters, who you might have only talked to twice before? Spontaneous trips to the beach? Why would you ever, ever want to do that!? Ugh. Greek life. I'll never get it.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out.
